Raymond Chandler is the mystery writer who is studied in
accademia by those aspiring to be mystery writers. His book
was the basis of this very philosophically rewarding thriller
where Robert Mitchum played Philip Marlowe, Private Detective.
Good and evil people are vividly contrasted, and good ones
ultimately triumph. Marlowe always works for a fee
(none of the 'he killed my best friend bromide...'), the
movie shows the effects of violence (never violent scenes
to display violence), and police individuals may be corrupt
(but the institution itself is not corrupt).
