Comments: Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and Dionne (Stacey Dash) live in
lush California and go to one of those high schools where the students
look like they've just stepped out of a fashion shoot. The most popular
students at Beverly Hills High, Dionne and Cher are best friends because
they both know what it is to have people be jealous of us. Completely
‘clueless’ to the world outside of shopping and social status, Cher can
be self absorbed and narrow minded, much to the disgust of Josh (Paul
Rudd), her ex stepbrother from one of her father’s previous marriages.
When final grades for debating are too low, Cher sets out to match-make
two teachers in order to gain a higher grade. Cher becomes so
empowered by her good deeds, she and Dionne devise a project to rebuild,
recently transferred, Tai’s (Brittany Murphy) lost soul and make her well
dressed and popular. After a failed attempt to set Tai up with the most
eligible boy at school, Elton, and the equally as failed attempt to seduce brutally hot Christian, Cher is left feeling unwanted and
sets off to repair her own soul. Although the plot contains all the
elements needed for a predictable teenage film, Clueless is full of comical
one liners such as "anything happens to my daughter, I got a .45 and
shovel."
Clueless is a teenage comedy exploring issues such as romance and self
discovery, much like the films Never Been Kissed (starring Drew
Barrymore) and She’s All That (starring Freddie Prinze Jnr). This
light-hearted comedy will be successful with teenagers, and anyone who likes the
teen-comedy genre.
Clueless is directed by Amy Heckerling and is a remake of Jane Austen’s
novel, Emma, with a modern day twist.
